Virgie H. Barkley, 78, formerly of Monterey, died Monday March 26, 1984 in the Pendleton Nursing Home in Franklin, W.Va.. where she had been a resident for eight months. She was born Sept. 13, 1905 near Blue Grass, a daughter of Henry and Lydia Smith Hedrick. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Her husband John Barkley, died in September, 1950. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Mary Kimble of Monterey; a son, Wardell Barkley of Winchester; a stepson, Ward Barkley of Elkins, W.Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Laura Vint of Circleville, W.Va., Mrs. Lommie Nelson of Cherry Grove, W.Va., and Mrs. Meadie Barkley of Broadway; a brother. Jarrett Hedrick of Grottoes, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday (today) in Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Johns Stanch. Burial will be in Blue Grass Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in the Blue Grass Cemetery.
