Sciotoville Student III Three Weeks; 11 Cases are under Care
Paul George, 16, of 5625 Cherry Street, Sciotoville, football and basketball player of East High, died at 5:10 p.m., Saturday following a three-week illness with typhoid fever.
The youth, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W.M. George, is thought to have contracted the sickness while swimming in the Little Scioto river.
With the announcement of the death, officials redoubled their efforts to stop a spread of the sickness and warned residents not to swim in polluted streams.
Tem patiens are in Portsmouth General hospital suffering from the fever and nother patient, Merle Lantz of Sciotoville, was reported ill with typhoid Saturday night.
Of the 10 patients in the hospital attaches said that condition of seven of them is thought serious while three were reported recovering.
Paul George, because of athletics, was widely known in Sciotoville. He was a candidate for a halfback position on the Sciotoville High school team this fall and coaches said that because of his ability there was no question but what he would have made the team. He was a member of the sophomore class of the school.
He was born Oct.22, 1922, a son of W. M. and Nell Hill George. He is survived by his parents and the following brothers and sisters: Virgil George of Lancaster, Mrs. Katherine Wikoff of Portsmouth, Forrest and Frank George of Lancaster, Billie George of Sciotoville, Walter George, who is in the United States Navy, Furn, Rosalie, Dale, and Essa May George all at home.
The body will be moved from Hacquard's funeral home to the residence today.
