Albert Gerney Burgess, 90, of Keokuk died at 9:20 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at his residence.

Born May 5, 1919 in Humboldt, Nebraska, he was the son of Amos G. and Anna Ada Mortimer Burgess. He married Dolly Rickets, they later divorced.

Albert worked at Keokuk Steel Castings, Keokuk, Iowa, in productions. He was President of Keokuk Steel Castings Union for 27 years. He retired in the late 70's. He became a farmer after retirement. He enjoyed fishing and sports, especially as a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He played the guitar and drums and was the leader of a country band called Country Gentlemen. He was of the Protestant faith.

Survivors include his ex-wife, Dolly Ricketts of Keokuk, Iowa; four sons, Gary Burgess of Carthage, Illinois, Morris Ricketts & Glenn Spraggins of Keokuk, Iowa and Merven Burgess of Payson, Illinois; four daughters, Alberta Thompson of Ft. Madison, Iowa, Linda Hall & Debbie Jefferson of Keokuk, Iowa and Elizabeth Collins of Wichita, Kansas; one brother, Elmer Burgess of Keokuk, Iowa; two sister-in-laws, Betty & Ruth Burgess of Keokuk, Iowa; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Albert Alonzo, LaVerne & Carl Burgess; one grandson, Billy Joe Burgess; four brothers, Howard, Cornelius, Bill & Glenn Burgess; four sisters, Minny, Ada, Hilda and Ett; his parents.

Funeral services for Albert Gerney Burgess will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 28, 2010 at DeJongs Funeral Home in Keokuk, Iowa with Prugh Funeral Staff assisting. Pastor Bill Willis will officiate. Cremation will be accorded at a later date. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
