T. Viola Richards
Stromsburg resident, 90
T. Viola Richards, 90, of Stromsburg, died Monday, April 4, 2005 at Bryan LGH West in Lincoln. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 7, 10 a.m., at Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola with Pastor Bob Johnson officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 6 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Osceola Cemetery. Roberts-Dubas Funeral Home in Osceola is in charge of arrangements.
Viola was born in Dawson, Neb., on Deb. 14, 1914 to Amos and Annie (Mortimer) Burgess. She attended school at McCook.
On Jan. 10, 1934, Viola married Glenn W. Richards at Nebraska City, Neb. They moved to Osceola and lived there until June, 1962. She then lived in Pueblo, Colo., and Denver, Colo., where she worked as a nurse's aide until retiring at age 75. In 1977, she moved back to the York and Polk county area.
Viola was a former Eastern Star and Extension Club member and enjoyed crocheting, making afghans for many people. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers, animals and reading.
Survivors include two sons, Roy of Stromsburg and Donald of Spring City, Tenn.; five daughters, Glenna (Waldo) Jarmin of Edson, Kan., Jean (Floyd) Shockey of Lincoln, Karen Nelson of Columbus, Betty (Norman) Fuehrer of El Cajon, Calif., and Marla (Mike) Stuhr of Waco; 26 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert Burgess and Elmer Burgess, both of Keokuk, Iowa; special neighbor, Terry Noyd and a host of other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; 11 siblings, her son Larry and one grandson, Troy Richards.
