Kahoka Gazette Herald 20 Oct 1961 Obituary: Amos Green

Burgess, a retired contractor, died at the home of his son Howard Burgess, at Alexandria, Missouri, Saturday morning, October 14, 1961 at 1:40 of infirmatives incendent to old age. He had been cared for at the home of his son, six
weeks. He was the last of a family of 14 children and was aged 102 years 7 months and 26 days.

Mr. Burgess was born at Charleston Landing, Indiana, March 18, 1859, a son of Green and Louisa Murray Burgess. At age 17 he located in Illinois, and at age 27 he came to Missouri where for the most part he spent the remainder of his life.

He was married to Tempie Viola Kellogg November 1,1887 at Keokuk, Iowa, and to them were born two sons. She died April 1891. His second marriage was to Annie Ada Mortimer Feb. 9, 1898 at Keokuk, and to them were born thirteen children.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Burgess, seven sons; Edward Burgess of Indiana, William of Wyaconda, Mo.; Glen and Albert of Keokuk; Cornelius, Elmer and Howard ofAlexandria; three Daughters Louisa Carroll of Denver Colo.; Mrs. Etta Kussman of Keokuk; and Mrs Viola Richards of Osceola, Neb; and many more than the 108 known grandchildren,great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren.

Mr. Burgess was preceded in death by two sons, three daughters, two grandchildren and 13 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will beheld form the Presbyterian church at Alexandria Tuesday afternoon, October 17, at 2: oclock, conducted by the Rev. Richard S. Golden of the Kahoka Christian Church. Burial will be in the Frazee Cemetery two miles south of Wayland.
