"Welch (Blue) Jackson, 75, a prominent and life-long resident of Coalfield, died Sunday morning in Oak Ridge Hospital after a short illness.
"He was an active member of Middle Creek Baptist Church and president of the Coalfield Senior Citizens' Club. He was a member of Omega Lodge Number 536 F&AM in Oliver Springs, 32nd Degree Scottish Rites Mason, and Shriner of Kerbella Temple in Knoxville.
"Mr. Jackson was a charter member of the Tri-County Sportsmans Club and an avid hunter and gardener.
"He was a retired coal miner who owned and worked a local mining operation.
"Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irene Wormsley Jackson; a duaghter [daughter], Naomi Ruth Daugherty, Coalfield; three sons, Donald W. Jackson, 106 Tilden Road, Jackie A. Jackson and Jerry L. Jackson, both of Coalfield; two brothers, the Rev. Dewey Jackson, Knoxville, and Wade Jackson, Oliver Springs; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
"The funeral will be 8 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Sharp Funeral Home[,] Oliver Springs. The Rev. Lloyd [Loyd] Napier will officiate. Burial will [be] at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Estes Cemetery, Coalfield. A Masonic service will follow the funeral.
"The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs."
