My great-great-uncle Noah's death was the result of an infection of the lymph nodes in his neck* (his brother Dewey Jackson [1901-1988] recalled knots on his neck). My cousin Maude (Estes) Hembree (1905-1907) remembered Noah and told me that they attended the Shannon School in Coalfield, Tennessee. Maude humorously recalled that she would ask to borrow his knife to sharpen her pencil since there were no regular sharpeners to which he would teasingly respond, "You say you'll be my wife?" "No," she would reply, "I want to borrow your knife," and he would repeat this inquiry two or three times before loaning her his knife.

A precious one from us has
gone.
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant
in our home,
Which never can
be filled.
