Although my great-great-aunt's name is inscribed as "Saley A. Samsel (initial spelling of Sampsel/Sampsell)" on her headstone, it was spelled as "Sally Sampsell" according to her granddaughter Elizabeth (Sampsell) Stewart (1921-1992).

Sally married her husband, Sam, on December 24, 1896, in Morgan County, Tennessee.

Elizabeth Stewart also told me that her grandmother, Sally, died of consumption but requested before her death that her son (and Elizabeth's father), Elijah (or "Lige"), be raised by her maternal aunt Emily (Justice) Jackson (see Memorial 77571001).
