According to her death record, she was the daughter of James and Mary (Peters) Sampsell [Samsel]. She was a sister to Samuel R. [W.] Samsel [Sampsell] (Memorial 151497330).

OBITUARY (Knoxville News-Sentinel, Knoxville, Tenn., Oct. 26, 1955, p. 2):

"Mrs. Donie Jackson Dies at Harriman

"Mrs. Donie Jackson, mother of the Rev. Dewey Jackson, Elm Street Baptist Church minister and former Knoxville police chaplain, died at Harriman Hospital yesterday. She was 77.

"Mrs. Jackson was the wife of the late F. [S.] L. Jackson, who was the last of the W. R. Jackson family of 16 children of Morgan County.*

"She leaves three other sons, Welch Jackson, Coalfield; Wade Jackson and Walter Sampsell, both of Oliver Springs; a step-daughter, Mrs. Mac [Mack] Bunch, Clarksville, Ark.; stepson [step-son], Herman Jackson, Kennewick, Wash.; sister, Mrs. Fornie Jones, Oliver Springs, and 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

"Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Middle Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Homer Hooks and Ray Myers officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson family cemetery.

"The family will receive friends tonight at the home of Welch Jackson, Coalfield."

(*That is, Donie had been the last surviving daughter-in-law of Rev. William R. and Mahala [Cooper] Jackson.)
