Son of Mrs. Kate Di Vita who resided in Bronx, New York. And the late Ignazio Di Vita.

Joseph served as a Sergeant & Engineer / Gunner on B-24J #42-100292, 33rd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in New York prior to the war.

B-24J #42-100292 took off, with a crew of 7 & 8 passengers along with 17 other B-24's, from Charters Towers Airfield, Queensland, Australia on a transport mission to their new base at Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guines.

B-24J #42-100292 fell out of formation, for an unknown reason, and crashed into the Coral Sea 9 miles east of Innisfail, Queensland, Australia. All 15 on the plane were lost.

Joseph was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" on this flight during the war.
