Donald served as a Staff Sergeant & Radio Operator / Gunner on B-24J #42-100292, 33rd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Herkimer County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 11, 1942 in Albany, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Farmer and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his enlistment.

B-24J #42-100292 took off, with a crew of 7 & 8 passengers along with 17 other B-24's, from Charters Towers Airfield, Queensland, Australia on a transport mission to their new base at Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guines.

B-24J #42-100292 fell out of formation, for an unknown reason, and crashed into the Coral Sea 9 miles east of Innisfail, Queensland, Australia. All 15 on the plane were lost.

Donald was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" on this flight during the war.
