George served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on B-24J #42-100292, 33rd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Roane County, West Virginia prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 21, 1942 at Fort Thomas, Newport, Kentucky. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Filling Station Attendant and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24J #42-100292 took off, with a crew of 7 & 8 passengers along with 17 other B-24's, from Charters Towers Airfield, Queensland, Australia on a transport mission to their new base at Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guines.

B-24J #42-100292 fell out of formation, for an unknown reason, and crashed into the Coral Sea 9 miles east of Innisfail, Queensland, Australia. All 15 on the plane were lost.

George was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" on this flight during the war.

George also has a "Cenotaph" in the IOOF Cemetery, Saint Marys, West Virginia.
