Husband of Mrs. Merle B. Taylor who resided in Chicago, Illinois.

Merle served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on B-24J #42-100292, 33rd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Ogle County, Illinois prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 31, 1942 at Camp Grant, Illinois. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his enlistment.

B-24J #42-100292 took off, with a crew of 7 & 8 passengers along with 17 other B-24's, from Charters Towers Airfield, Queensland, Australia on a transport mission to their new base at Nadzab Airfield, Morobe Province, Papua New Guines.

B-24J #42-100292 fell out of formation, for an unknown reason, and crashed into the Coral Sea 9 miles east of Innisfail, Queensland, Australia. All 15 on the plane were lost.

Merle was declared "Missing In Action" in the "Line Of Duty" on this flight during the war.
