Hiram was the fifth of nine children born to Jonas More and Deborah Person More. He was raised at Roxbury and as a young man, relocated to Andes, New York where he was a clerk in the store there owned by James Smith. Hiram married to Abagail Squires on 24 September 1829. They made their home first at Roxbury and relocated to Pepacton, New York about 1836. They relocated to Jamestown, New York about 1838 and to Downsville, New York about 1841. They returned to Roxbury about 1844 where Hiram was the victim of a tarring and feathering by “anti-renters” dressed as Indians. The family relocated permanently to Colchester about 1849 where Hiram was the owner and operator of a farm. He was active in this community as a trustee of the school on Huntley Hollow Road and as an Election Clerk in 1866. Hiram died of thyphoid pneumonia and his wife died of the same just seven days later. He was remembered for his generosity and open-handedness. Hiram and Abagail were the parents of ten children; Charity More, Enos Squire More, Jonas More, Eleanor Squire More, Wilson Squire More, Sarah Wilson More, Ezra William Stratton More, Elizabeth Jane More, Mary Abigail More, and Anna More.
