Henry was the seventh of nine children born to Jonas More and Deborah Person More. He was raised at Roxbury where his father was a prominent farmer and leading citizen. Henry married to Christina M. Person on 13 June 1833 at Roxbury. They made their home first with his parents at Roxbury. They relocated to Pleasant Valley about 1835; and then to Andes, New York about 1838. They returned to Roxbury about 1840 and then relocated to Montgomery Hollow about 1857; all places where her husband was the owner and operator of farms. About 1862, they farmed at More Settlement and, about 1868, they relocated to Cortland County, New York. Henry returned to Roxbury about 1873 and in 1880 resided for a time at Gilboa, New York with his son, Liberty. Henry and Christina were the parents of five children; James Ezekiel More, Elizabeth More, twins Edward Burhans More and Liberty Preston More, and Emily Day More.
