Lewis Burke, 61, of the Williams Creek community, passed away suddenly Thursday morning, June 21, 1990, at the Scott County Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, W.H. Burke; and four brothers: Mitchell, Ovia, Esther, and T.L. Burke. He was a member of the Bethelonia Baptist church and was a coproral in the United States Army for three years during which time he was stationed in Japan. Mr. Burke is survived by his mother, Rilda Thomas Burke; his wife, Geraldine Garrett Burke; one daughter, Mitzi Dee Walker, all of the Williams Creek communtiy; four sons: Rodney and wife, Diane, Donnie and wife, Connie, Ricky Lee and Will Haden Burke, all of Oneida; four step-sons: Jerry, Jim, and Bob Walker, all of Muncie, Ind., and Charles Walker of Jamestown; five sisters: Alice Hamby of Winfield, Dorothy Marcum, Connie Terry, Elizabeth Boyatt, and Menda Williams, all of Route 3, Oneida; five brothers: Willie Howard, J.D., Jessie, Crestin, and James Lester Burke, all of Route 3, Oneida; ten grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 24, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Jones and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Carl Jeffers and Bro. Paul Chambers officiating. Special music was provided by the Lee Griffith Singers. Burial was in the West Cemetery in the Williams Creek community with full military honors by Oneida American Legion Post No. 136. Serving as pallbearers were: Gary Williams, Larry Pendergrass, Monty Burke, Chris Williams, Randy Burke, Johnny Burke, Danny Burke, and Crestin Burke. Serving as honorary pallbearers were: Greg Burchfield, Paul Burke, Anthony chambers, Brian Chambers, Charlie Koger, Tim Miller, Greg Thomas, Luther Burke, and Raymond Smelcer.
