Alice Burke Hamby, 87, of Winfield, passed away May 30, 2008, at St. Mary's Medical Center of Scott County in Oneida.
Born in Oneida, May 28, 1921, she was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. and Winnie West Burke; her husband, Herman Hamby, grandchild, Lindsey Todd Carroll; sister, Dorothy Marcum; brothers: infants, Andrew and Robert, and Mitchell, Ovia and Ester Burke; and half-brothers, Lewis, T.L., and Howard.
She was a member of Bethalonia Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughters: June Carroll and husband, Clarence, of LaFollette; and Joyce King and husband, Doc, and Brenda Stanfill and husband, James, all of Winfield; half-brothers: J.D., Jesse, Crestin, and Lester; half-sisters: Connie, Elizabeth, and Menda; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Funeral service was conducted June 1, in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Rev. Robert King and Rev. Bradley Kidd officiating. Music was provided by the Hamby Brothers. Graveside service was conducted June 2, at West Cemetery.
