BEULAH E. SHAFER
ALVA – The funeral for Beulah Estella Shafer, 89, will be at 10 A.M. Thursday at Wharton Funeral Chapel in Alva. The Rev. Steve Darr, pastor of the Alva Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.
She was born on Dec. 11, 1903, at Alva to Bob P. and Myrtle Cummins Arndt and died Monday, July 26, 1993, at the Alva Share Medical Center. She had attended Alva public schools and Northwestern State Normal High School, graduating in 1924. She then worked for Dr. Clark.
On Sept. 18, 1923, she married Raymond Mitchell Shafer at Medicine Lodge, Kan. They had eight children. The family lived on a farm nine miles west and two north of Alva. In 1929, they moved to Alva, in 1950 to Knob Noster, Mo., and in 1965 returned to Alva. She was a member of the Alva Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Velma Dennis and Verla Bixler, both of Alva; four sons, Raymond Junior, Dean, and Allen, all of Alva, and Gerald of Tempe, Ariz.; one sister Revenna Rose of Alva; two brothers, Roland and Ralph, both of Alva; 29 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 15, 1987, two sons, one grandson, and two brothers.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Beadles Nursing Home Activity Fund.
