The Michael Darcy family originated in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland. He was the son of John Darcy and Bridget Boe. John and Bridget Boe were married in 1837 in Muckalee Parish . Michael was the brother of Margaret, Sarah, William, and John Darcy. John moved to the USA in 1886 and lived in Knox, County Nebraska. Michael Darcy (my gr. grandfather) was born June 27, 1841 in Coon, Kilkenny Co, Ireland. He died on Sept 25, 1930. His wife Catherine Donahue was born in 1842 in Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, she died on Sept 28, 1910. . Michael worked for 3 years as a coalminer in Wales during the early 1860s. He returned to Ireland and became a farm worker. He started operating the family farm in Coon, County Kilkenny in the mid 1860s.
Both Michael and Catherine Darcy are buried in Coon, Co. Kilkenny, Ireland, in St. Bridgit's churchyard

Catherine Donahue Darcy's sister Mary Donahue married William Fitzpatrick in 1871 Her brother Thomas William Donahue, married Anne Kealy in about 1874. Thomas and Anne Donahue were the grandparents of Edward (Ted) Stephen Darcy. Catherine Donahue Darcy was Ted's great aunt. Edward (Ted) Stephen Donahue married Mary Ellen Brennan from O'Neil, NE. The had four children: Thomas born in 1915; Edward B. born in 1916; Francis Damian born in 1918; and Margaret Ellen born Jan 13, 1920. Mary Ellen Brennan Donahue died as a result of childbirth following Margaret Ellen's birth. Edward Stephen Donahue is buried in Omaha, Ne. at Holy Sepulcur Cemetery and Mary Ellen Brennan Donahue is buried in O'Neil, NE. Margaret Ellen Donahue became a Catholic Sister - Sister Benadict Joseph Donahue, OSB and died Nov 8, 1984, buried in the convent cemetery in Yankton, SD.

Michael Darcy and Catherine Donahue's oldest child Thomas Patrick born March 3, 1868. Thomas Patrick left Ireland from Queenstown April 22, 1886 aboard
the SS Circassian, on the White Star Line. Arrived at the port of Quebec, Canada on May 3, 1886 and crossed the border at Buffalo, New York. arriving in the USA on May 6, 1886. Also aboard the SS Circassian was his Paternal Uncle John Patrick Darcy (age 27), John's wife Kate (age 26) , and three of their children John P (age 4), Mark Pierce (age 2), and Margaret J Darcy (infant). Thomas Patrick went directly to Creighton, Knox Co., Nebraska USA, where his maternal uncle Thomas William Donahue, helped him get settled. Thomas William Donahue had come to the USA in 1874, first to Pennslyvania where he worked in the coal fields. Later moving to Creighton, Knox Co., Nebraska. Where he worked as farm laborer. Thomas Patrick helped his brothers and sisters come to the USA.
The next to leave Ireland was (2) Della Darcy (Curtin) Mulvey, born Feb 5, 1870, she left Ireland in 1887. She became a US citizen in 1890. She returned to Ireland for a visit in 1902. Next to leave was (3) Catherine Darcy Mulvey, born March 18, 1871, she left Ireland in 1893. (4) Sarah Darcy (O'Donnell) Shea was born June 16, 1872, she left Ireland in 1891. Next to leave was (5) William Joseph Darcy, born Jan 27, 1878, he left Ireland in 1897. Next to leave were (6) Michael Joseph Darcy, born July 5, 1880 and (7) Anne Maria Darcy Loser, born 28, 1883. They left Ireland together on Sept 11, 1902, leaving from the port of Cobh, then called Queenstown, Co. Cork. They sailed from Ireland aboard the SS Noordland. They landed in Philadelphia, PA on September 20, 1902. Della Darcy Curtin was also aboard the SS Noordland. Della was returning to the US after a short visit. Della's children Patrick and George Curtin were also aboard the ship. Della is listed as Mrs. Curtin, a widow with the last residence in Ireland listed as Ballyragget, Ireland, located in Northern Kilkenny Co in the province of Leinster, about 75 miles from Dublin. All five in the party went to Creighton, Knox Co., to visit Thomas Patrick Darcy. They went to Creighton by railroad, and they had their railroad tickets at the time of their arrival. From Creighton, NE, Michael Joseph went to Stephen, Minn. Della, her children and Anne Marie went to Barnesville, MN (about 90 miles from Crookston, MN.)

John Darcy born Jan 18, 1874, died May 11, 1928; Mary Darcy born Jan 3, 1876, died 1896; Patrick Darcy born Nov 14, 1881 died Sep 24, 1976; and Margaret Darcy born Mar 12, 1886 died Apr 30, 1962: all stayed in Ireland.

By 1986 the seven emigrant children of Michael and Catherine Darcy had 33 children, over 100 grandchildren, and an increasing number of subsequent younger generations.
