Walter Crew, 79, of La Salle died at 11:59 p.m. Oct. 8, 2010, in La Salle HealthCare Center, La Salle.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Private burial will be at a later date. Burgess Funeral Home, La Salle, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Crew was born Feb. 13, 1931, in Varna to John Edward and Hazel (Jenkins) Crew. He married Barbara Nealand on Nov. 5, 1949, in La Salle.

He worked for La Salle Township and the City of La Salle for more than 20 years as a mechanic.

Survivors are three sons, John (Frances) of Oglesby, Matt (Jean) of La Salle and Richard (Christina) of La Salle; one daughter, Connie of Lansing, Mich.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Grubb of Streator, Phyllis (Doc) Clearwater of Ottawa and Helen Bridgeforth of Pontiac; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1993; one son, Michael, in 2008; and seven brothers and three sisters.
