Mr. Carter owned and operated Carter Machinery of Garland for about 30 years. He retired in the early 1990s. He was a member of an informal coffee club that met daily at the Rockwall Dairy Queen until the restaurant closed last year. Mr. Carter had been a member of the Lions Club for about two years, said his wife, Joyce Perkins Carter. Mrs. Carter said her husband also had a passion for deer and quail hunting and loved fishing for catfish on Lake Ray Hubbard. Other survivors include a daughter, Lynda Taylor of Rochester, N.Y.; three sisters, Inez Jones of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Lorene Waller of Mesquite and Gladys Stevenson of Irving; three brothers, Albert Carter of Garland, Lynn Carter of Wichita Falls and Horace Norris of Commerce; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
