Funeral services will be conducted in the last residence in Malta at 2 p.m., Wednesday for Elmer Murphy, 56, who was found dead in his bedroom Monday morning, by his wife. Rev. Carl Hicks will officiate and burial will be in Malta Cemetery. Mr. Murphy had been in ill health from heart trouble but death was unexpected.

He was a son of the late William and Phoebe Murphy and had spent his entire life in Morgan County. Twice married, his first wife, Alta McElfresh Murphy preceded him in death. One daughter by this marriage, Mrs. Freda Moody, of Zanesville, survives. Also surviving are his second wife, Merle Wells Murphy, one daughter, Shirley and a son Cherrick, all of the home; five sisters, Mrs. Lola Smith of McConnelsville, Mrs. Bernice Beach of Zanesville, Mrs. Rose Barnhart and Mrs. Gladys Cramblitt of Malta, and Mrs. Alta Scott of Newark; four brothers, Riley of Stockport, Charles, Floyd and James, all of near Malta.

The body was to be removed to the family home this afternoon from the Fisher funeral home. (September 7, 1948, Zanesville Signal)
