Mearl Murphy Lewis, 75, of 405 Blackwood Lane, Norwich, former Malta resident, died 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at her home. She was born May 26, 1907, in Meigsville township, the daughter of Everett and Jolliette Whitehouse Wells.

Mrs. Lewis spent most of her life in Morgan County, moving to Norwich 12 years ago. She was owner-operator of Home Lunch Restaurant.

Mrs. Lewis’ first husband, Elmer L. Murphy, preceded her in death in 1948. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Blackwood of 415 Blackwood Lane; one step-daughter, Mrs. Freda Parker of McConnelsville, one sister, Mrs. Emery (Burdella) Townsend of Malta; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. One son also preceded her in death.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday (today) at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home in New Concord. Rev. Thomas Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in the Malta Union Cemetery.
