Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Balsorah Thompson Bass, member of a prominent South Mississippi family, were held Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, near New Hebron. Interment was at Buckley Cemetery. Officiating was Rev. Milton Scott, assisted by Rev. Harold Douglas. Summit, and Dr. B. Frank Smith, Hattiesburg.
Mrs. Bass, the daughter of William Wesley Thompson and Elizabeth Ragland Thompson, was born at old Hebron, in Lawrence County, County, June 25, 1876. She was married January 6, 1897 to Phillip Benjamin Bass, and moved to Simpson County. Mr. Bass died in 1940.
Survivors are: Five daughters and three sons: Mrs. Brice L. Caldwell, Mrs. Mary B. Clary. Jackson; Mrs. Henry L. Brown. Summit; Mrs. Gaude A. Bush, Sr., Mobile. Alabama; Mrs. B. Frank Smith Hattiesburg; Phillip B. Bass. Crystal Springs; Eugene Thompson Bass, Little Falls. New York; Archie Bass. Rt. 1. Pinola. with whom she made her home: 18 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.,
Serving as pallbearers were six of her grandsons; Paul Bass, Crystal Springs: Eugene Brown, Hattiesburg: Phillip Bush, Mobile. Alabama; Alabama; Carroll Bass, Lloyd Bass, and John Brice Caldwell, Jackson. Jackson. Saulters Funeral Home, Prentiss, Prentiss, was in charge of arrangements.
