Mary was the daughter of Robert Bruce Dodge and Ada Lillie Marcy.
She married in 1935 to Charles T. Stroup. He was a taxi driver.

Ellensburg Daily Record, Sep 16, 1958:
Mrs. Mary Jane Stroup died yesterday at the Ellensburg General Hospital after being in the hospital for three days. She had been ill for a year. She was born on September 3, 1887 in Littlerock, Washington.
She attended Walla Walla College and became a teacher. After her graduation she taught in Mabton where she was known for her excellent and conscientious work in the schools. She gained her life certificate as a teacher after 13 years. She retired from the teaching profession and married Charles T. Stroup of Seattle in 1935. He died in 1946.
Mrs. Stroup made her home here for 14 years and was employed at the Ellensburg General Hospital until two years ago. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
She is survived by three sisters: Mrs. Grace L. Ploeger of Ellensburg with whom she had made her home here; Mrs. Olive Gillett of Cle Elum, and Mrs. Sophrona Knapp of Rochester, Washington. She leaves also five brothers: Orville C. Dodge of Ellensburg; Bradley M. Dodge of Hadlock, Washington; Glen R. Dodge of Gate, Washington; Milton B. Dodge of Marysville, California and Dean Dodge, Trout Lake, Washington.
Funeral services will be September 19 at 2 p.m. at the Evenson Chapel with Elder Francis Phelps officiating. Burial will be at the IOOF Cemetery.
