Mrs. Maria Wiegert
Lincoln (KS) Republican, Thur, 7 Jul 1921

Marie Wiegert, nee Worncke (sic), was born in Germany, December 23, 1840.

In the year 1863 she was united in marriage to Christoph Wiegert. Soon after their marriage they came to this country and lived in Addison, Ill. In 1879 they came to Kansas and lived in the county ever since. They were among the first settlers in this county. Time gradually brought with it to this brave and unyielding pioneer family, the realization of their most cherished wish, and as they from their lowly beginning saw their equipment grow, and their material possessions flourish, they were the more appreciated for the planning, denials and self-sacrifices that went into making them their own. Mrs. Wiegert after a full measure of life, both sad and joyful, reached the end of her pilgrimage, July 2, 1921.
They were blessed with a family of ten children, all of whom survive her except one son, who preceded her to the grave. Her dear husband passed away December 11, 1920.

Mrs. Wiegert was a kind neighbor and a true friend. She fulfilled earnestly and conscientiously all her duties. Her labors were not in vain. She reaped even here a beautiful reward, for her children were very fond of her, and during her long illness nursed her with loyal and untiring love.

From childhood she belonged to the Lutheran Church and remained faithful. Her faith in the Savior made her mighty to bear the burden. She had not been well for nine years. Especially during the last weeks of her life she endured severe pain. However, she endured her sufferings with great patience and died resigned to the will of God.

The funeral services were held at the Lutheran church near Lincoln, on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and the remains were interred in the Lutheran cemetery. Rev. H. Kroening officiating, assisted by Prof. Gabbert and his choir.

May she rest in Peace.
