Hiawatha -- Funeral services for former Hays resident Matilda C. Gampper, 88, were Tuesday, Jan. 7 at St. Ann Catholic Church, Hiawatha. Father Roderic Giller officiated; burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Gampper died Jan 4 at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born March 19, 1897 at Hays, the daughter of John Henry and Catherine (Waldschmidt) Wasinger.

She lived in Hays until she was 14 years old. She kept house for her cousin Father Joseph Wasinger, and was a member of the St. Ann Church.

Survivors include her brother, William J. Wasinger, Hays; and three sisters, Philomena Harlan, Rohneret Park, Calif., Rose Rickert, Kansas City, Mo., and Theresa Williams, Scottsdale, Ariz.
