He was diagnosed as being Mongoloid (now called Down Syndrome). He was dearly loved by his parents and they sought out schools for him only to find no such schools, affordable, existed at that time. Allen was kept home until about his teenage years, when he joined a group of children with his condition to learn whatever he could be taught. He learned to feed himself better, dress himself and a few other essentials. Allen remained in a nursing home environment until October 26, 1993, when he became sick and was taken to Grace Hospital. He died in the early morning of October 27, 1993 from pneumonia.
Allen's parents preceded him in death, as did a sister, Marie Smith and brothers, Mack, Lawyer and Robert Richardson.
Allen leaves to mourn his passing: three brothers, Jesse, Willie and Bert Richardson; one sister, Rosie Lee Blair; sisters-in-law; a
brother-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
