Marie Etta Smith was born February 16, 1906 in Shelby, Mississippi, second child born to the late Lawyer and Savannah Richardson. She moved to Charleston, Missouri with her parents and siblings and later to Detroit, Michigan where she united with Peace Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Rev. Lee T. Clay.
Marie married the late James Smith in 1934 and transferred her membership to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church to serve with her husband.
She was a loving wife and a loving mother to her stepson Curfee Smith, who preceded her in death.
During her fifty or more years at Pleasant Grove before she become incapacitated, she served as Sunday School Teacher, was a member of the Senior Choir, Usher Board, Alter Circle, Missionary Society, Deaconess Board and Baptist Training (BTU).
Marie attended public school in Shelby, Mississippi and continued her education in adult night school in Detroit.
She was a loving sister to seven brothers, three of whom preceded her in death and one sister. Surviving siblings are, brothers; Jesse, Willie Lee, Bert Richardson and Allen Henderson; sister, Rosie Lee Blair. She also leaves to mourn her passing; five sisters-in law: Lucille, Lacy, Lilar, Jean and Mozell; a brother-in law, Joshua Blair; and a host of nieces and nephews; and many devoted friends.
