` ` ` ` Great Aunt ` ` ` `

Louella Mahala Elizabeth 'Long' Berry
was the daughter of Rev. Robert Houston
Long and Lucinda 'Holt' Long.
Louella was the first child, after the
couple lost a baby girl at birth. She
was the granddaughter of Maples Long and
Mahala 'Atchley' Long, also Henry Holt
and Martha 'Logan' Holt.

She married Joseph Daniel Berry on March
13, 1888 in Missouri.
The couple were the parents of 6 children:
Ivan Alexander
Lemuel Z.
Eva Cornelia
Lucinda W.
Infant son, that lived 3 months
Infant daughter, that lived 9 days

NEW INFO:
Joseph and Louella were renting their
home in Chelsea. This information is
on the 1900 Census; Township 24 N.
Range 18e. Coo-wee-scoo-wee District
Chelsea town, Cherokee Nation, Indian
Territory, United States.
The census has her recorded as being a
mother to 5 children, 4 living. She
had lost the baby boy in 1898. The
name of the baby boy is unknown at this
time, he lived abt.4 months. Then
she had the baby girl after the census,
in 1902. The baby girl lived only 9
days, hopefully both names will be
found someday.
Research will continue and be added
when possible. 1900 Census listed are:
Joseph, Louella, Ivan, Lemuel, Eva &
Lucinda.

Louella was buried near Chelsea,
Rogers Co., I.T., by two of her
infant babies.
The couple had lived there for
sometime when Louella died. This was
before statehood, it was Indian
Territory. Records are very difficult
to find in this period of Oklahoma's
history.

All efforts have been made to find
the cemetery, but at this time, I
haven't found it. I have walked
through several of the little country
cemetery's and the Chelsea Cemetery.
I have checked with the city of Chelsea
for the list of the city's cemetery.
I'll will continue to locate the cemetery
when possible.

One of the pages from her father, Rev.
Robert's old Bible, list her being buried
near Chelsea, and the date of her death.
Great Grandfather writes in his Bible;
'Louella is buried beside her infant son
and infant daughter.'
The Bible pages are in my possession at
this time.

Her son Ivan and daughter, Eva are
buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Afton,
Ottawa Co., Oklahoma

NOTE: Louella's husband, Joseph, remarried
7 months later. He married Martha
Brown, they lived in Oklahoma for a
period of time. Joseph and Martha
were living in Pryor, Mayes Co.,
Oklahoma in 1910. Joseph and Louella's
children, Lemuel, who was 19 and Lucinda,
age 12 are listed as Cherokee Indians.
Their mother, Louella was Cherokee by blood.
But Martha is listed as Cherokee
and her and Joseph's two children,
Goldie and Charlotte are also listed
as Cherokee by blood. It appears
Martha's mother was Cherokee, her
father is listed as white. Joseph
was listed as white in all records.
Later, Joseph and Martha moved to
California, where they raised a
large family. They both died in
California and are buried there.
