~ ~ BELOVED GREAT GRANDMOTHER ~ ~

Lucinda Jane'Holt' was the daughter of
Henry and Martha 'Logan'Holt. She was
the grandaughter of Drury and Alice
'Wright' Holt and John and Martha
Logan.
She was married to Robert H. Long
in Newton County, Arkansas on the 17th
of October, 1867. They were married
by Zion Shaddock, the Justice of the
Peace in his home. The couple lived
in Arkansas for a short time, moving
then to Missouri. They lived there
and Robert was ordained to preach.
Later, they moved to I. T. Ok.
Lucinda was the mother of twelve children:
The first was an infant daughter, which was
born and died in May, 1869. Two years later,
Louella was born, then as follows:
Isaiah Henry Maples (Rev.);
George Marion
Martha Frances
Ivan
Cynthia May
Rhoda
Nancy
Robert Orlando
Mary Catherine
Lucinda Jane

George Marion was born on March 4, 1875 and
died in May, 1877. Rhoda A. Nancy was born
July 5, 1884 and died in December, 1865.
Robert Orlando was born in May 22, 1886 and
died in May, 1888. These children are buried
in Missouri.

Lucinda was a very loving and kind lady.
She was a devoted Christian, supporting
her husband, Rev. Robert Houston Long in
his ministry.
Lucinda enjoyed sewing and raising her
family. Rev. Robert traveled much of the
time, he rode horseback going throughout
Indian Territory preaching to the many
different tribes. Also for starting several
Baptist Churches in Missouri and Oklahoma.
Great grandmother loved her family and
church work. The family recalled her sweet
disposition and kindness. I have in my
possession sweet cards she and gr. great
father wrote to each other when he was in
the hospital in Arkansas after the Civil
War. A few other documents also, which was
in the Treasure Box.

Taken from Original OBIT:
COURTESY OF PHYLLIS 'LONG' RHODES
She was converted and joined the Rose Hill
Baptist Church in Green County, Missouri
in 1868. She was baptized by Rev. George
Long III, her pastor & her brother-in-law.
Rev. L. O. Hudson preached her sermon
for her funeral at the First Baptist Church,
Afton. The church was started by Rev.R. H.
and Lucinda, holding church in their home
and other members homes. They were finally
able to build and start the First Baptist
Church, Afton, Oklahoma. Later, the church
building that stands today had the corner
stone set by their son, my grandfather,
Rev. Isaiah Henry Maples Long.

Original copy of obit in possession of
Phyllis 'Long' Rhodes, a great grand
daughter.

NOTE: I'm researching the places of burial
for their infant and young children in
Missouri.
Also, their oldest daughter, Louella. She is
buried somewhere close to Chelsa, Roger Co.,
Oklahoma, but at this time, the exact location
hasn't been found.
I have walked several of the little country
cemeteries in the area, but have not found
her final resting place. Research will be
continued, hoping to locate Louella's
burial. Records show she was buried by one
of her babies. Rev. Robert H. Long's old
Bible page records history.

NOTE: I now have a picture of my
great grandmother, Lucinda. Thanks
in kindness to a sweet cousin. It's
wonderful getting to see her, she's
a lovely lady. March, 2011
