Ivan Long was the son of Rev.
Robert Houston Long & Lucinda
"Holt" Long. He was born in Christian
County, Missouri. He was the
grandson of Maples Long and
Mahala 'Atchley' Long and Henry
Holt and Martha 'Logan' Holt.

Ivan married Lula M. "Ledbetter"
Long on June 7, 1900 to this union
were born five children:
Ralph
Zelma
Leonard C.
Robert W.
Evelyn M.

By occupation, he followed farming
and monumental stone work. His Uncle,
Lemuel Long owned the monument business
in Fairland, after Lemuel's death, Ivan
bought the business and moved it to
Afton. His brother, Isaiah learned the
art of carving the stones and worked
for him at times. There are many beautiful
tombstones in Mount Hope and other cemeteries
in the area made by the Long family.

Ivan was the brother of Louella M. E.,
Rev.Isaiah Henry, George Marion,
Martha Frances, Cynthia May,
Rhoda A. Nancy, Robert Orlando,
Mary Catherine,and Lucinda Jane Long.
(George Marion was 2 yrs old when he died; 1875-1877
Rhoda A. Nancy was 1 year old when she died; 188-1885 Robert Orlando was 3 years old when he died. 1886-1888
The family lived in Christian Co., Missouri at this time)

Ivan and his family lived in Afton,
Ottawa Co., Oklahoma.
He was listed on the Final Dawes
Rolls as 1/16 Cherokee
Ivan was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Afton. His father,
Rev. Robert had organized the church
at the time when they met in homes.

Personal note: I remember my Great Uncle
Ivan and Great Aunt Lula very well. He
would raised a lovely garden
and was always calling my parents
to come over and share the veggies.
My father, Ray Long, was Ivan's
nephew, the son of his brother,
Rev. Isaiah's son.
