One of Soldier townships oldest residents died in Topeka at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Skaggs, on Sunday at 10 a.m. Funeral at the Soldier Methodist church at 2 o'clock, today, Wednesday. Obituary next week.

OBITUARY - JOHN PETER MINNER

John Peter Minner was born in Greenville, Monroe county, West Virginia, June 17, 1855. When a child he came to Bloomington, Illinois with his parents. In 1878, he, with his parents moved to Falls City, Nebr., and later moved to Hamlin, Brown county, Kansas. Here he met and married Sarah Ann Coe, March 18, 1880. To this union was born one child, Ruby Millicent. Sarah Minner passed January 21, 1881.

On February 14, 1883, he married Eliza Frances Baker of Greenville, West Virginia. Eliza Baker was a former schoolmate. They came to Soldier, Kansas, March 1883 where they made their home on the farm 3 miles west of Soldier.

To this union was born eight children, five girls and three boys, all of whom survive.

Mr. and Mrs. Minner lived in this community continuously for fifty years, celebrating their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home west of Soldier, February 14, 1933.

Eliza Minner passed away February 15, 1933. Since her death, Mr. Minner continued to live in this community. He passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. P. Skaggs, in Topeka, Kansas, on May 1, 1938, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 20 days. He had gone to his daughter's home for a weekend visit.

Those who survive are his children: Millicent Heath, Holton, Grace Banaka, Soldier; Lucy Skaggs, Topeka; Claude Minner, Bakersfield, California; Roxie Diver, Santa Fe, New Mexico; Charlie Minner, Soldier; Ratia Klusmire, Holton; Bertha Forster, Havana, Cuba; Clyde Minner, Los Angeles, California; and 14 grandchildren and three brothers; Willard Minner, Harlingen, Texas; Frank Minner, Fall Brooks, Calif., and Andrew Minner, Bakersfield, Calif.

Mr. Minner joined the Baptist church when a young man, and was an active charter member of the Masonic lodge of Soldier.

John Minner was a splendid citizen, planned and labored hard to make a success in life. Raised a splendid family, and his heart's desire was to leave each child an 80 acre farm, and he nearly accomplished his desire.

The funeral was held in the Methodist church in Soldier on Wednesday, May 4th, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Geo. Engel, officiating. The casket bearers were Scott Manuel, Joe Evans, Ray Fiske, Chas. Fisher, Bert Anderson and J. A. Sproul.

Mrs. Mildred Kling, Mrs. Merle Proctor, Miss Esther Tolin and Miss Helen Sigg sang three selections with Mrs. Nelda Slocum at the piano.

RESOLUTIONS OF RESPECT

In memory of Brother John Minner, who died May 1, 1938.

Once again a Brother Mason, having completed the designs written for him on life's treasle board, has passed through the portals on Eternity and entered the Grand Lodge of the New Jerusalem and hath received as his reward, the white stone with the new name written thereon.

And whereas, the all-wise and merciful Master of the universe has called from labor to refreshments our beloved and respected brother, and he having been a true and faithful member of our beloved Order therefore be it.

RESOLVED, That Soldier Lodge, No. 240, A. E. & A.M. of Soldier, Kansas, in testimony of her loss, be draped in mourning for thirty days and that we tender to the family of our deceased brother our sincere condolence in their deep affection, and that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family.
