Charlie Homer Minner, son of Eliza (Baker) Minner and John Peter Minner, was born October 12, 1891, near Soldier, and passed away at his home February 17, 1971.

He attended Soldier schools and as a young man engaged in farming; an occupation he pursued most of his life. Except for the brief time spent in Brown county, Kansas and in California, he farmed in Jackson county.

On October 22, 1917 he was married to Myrtle Bailey of Holton, who preceded him in death, November 8, 1967. They had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary 17 days before her death.

He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Merwin (Charlene) Squires of Holton, and a son, Francis Minner of Soldier; eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren; also by three sisters, Mrs. Millicent Heath, Topeka, Mrs. Ratia Klusmire, Holton, and Mrs. Bertha Forster of Jacksonville, Florida; two brothers, Claude of Vista, California and Clyde of Festus, Missouri; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends mourn his going.

"Charlie", as he was affectionatley known by young and old, was a friend to everyone. He was highly respected for his integrity, generosity and unselfishness. He truly "lived in a house by the side of the road and was a friend to man." The community has lost a beloved friend - his family has lost a devoted father and grandfather.

Funeral services were held at the Mercer Funeral Home on February 20 at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Paul Davis officiated, vocal music was furnished by Clyde Rieschick and Claude Rieschick. They were accompanied by Mrs. Dean Stous.

Pallbearers were Jerry Barnes, Dale Barnes, Paul Reisinger, Keith White, Evan Lewelling and George L. Hughes. Interment was in the Soldier Cemetery.
