First name variously spelled as Christen and Christian. Son of Daniel Beer (1777-1855) and Barbara Schilt Beer (1780-1859). Born near Trub, Canton Bern, Switzerland. Married Katharina Uhlmann. A poor Swiss farming family, all but one of their 9 children who survived to adulthood came to America, starting in 1854. Here, many of them prospered in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Christen and Katherina came to America in 1867 and went to Richland County, Ohio. Burial site is a now abandoned and ruined cemetery near where son Fred Beer had his farm in Madison Township; there was no tombstone, but family history states a rock (pictured) was placed to mark the location of his grave, and can still be viewed near the edge of Fleming Falls Road.

Two of Christen and Katharina's children died as infants in Switzerland: Christen/Christian Beer, Jr. (born/died 18 Aug. 1831) and the first of 2 daughters named Anna Barbara Beer (1836-1839). Son Daniel Beer married and had a family, but never left Switzerland (though several of their children did). There may have been an older daughter, Elizabeth Beer (1827-1917, bur Milford, Ind. beside Hans Beer), but this is not confirmed.

Christen's wife along with sons John U. Beer and Frederick Beer, and daughter Anna Beer Isley are buried at Lantz Cemetery, Madison Twp., Richland Co., Ohio; son Peter Beer is buried at Lexington Cemetery, Richland Co., OH; sons Ulrich, Hans, and Simon Beer are buried Milford Cemetery, near Milford, Indiana; daughter Magdalena Beer Frederick is believed to be buried near Cissna Park, Illinois.
