Sarah Stoffel, 88

East Liverpool -- Sarah E. Goppert Hubbard Stoffel, 88, of East Fourth Street, died at 12:06 a.m. Sunday, May 12, 2002, at the East Liverpool City Hospital following a brief illness. Virtually a lifetime resident of Chester, where she was born Dec. 7, 1933, she had made her home in East Liverpool since 1998. Her parents were the late Frederick G. Goppert and Clara Sittig Goppert. For more than 30 years, she was employed at the former Taylor, Smith & Taylor China Co., later owned by Anchor Hocking. She was Lutheran by faith and an honorary member of the Glass, Molders, Plastic and Allied Workers International Union. On June 7, 1938, she married Bemon J. Hubbard, who died Oct. 18, 1952. She later married Donald W. Stoffel on Aug. 8, 1953. Mr. Stoffel died May 17, 1995. There are two daughters, Mrs. James (Gloria) Garry of Springfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Karl "Butch" (Jerry) Kontneir of East Liverpool. A son, Robert Frederick "Fritz" Hubbard and his wife, Susan Horger, reside in Huntington W. Va. Other family members include two stepdaughters; Mrs. Jim (Mary Ellen) Sparks of California and Mrs. Gerry (Anna) Deck of Springfield, Mo. There is one stepson, Donald "Lefty" Stoffel and his wife, Jean, of Jensen Beach, Fla. Two stepdaughters, Jane White and Dorothy Johnson, preceded her in death as did six sisters and four brothers. There are five grandchildren, Dr. David Hubbard and his wife, Dana, of Morgantown, W.Va.; Attorney Kellie Kontnier of East Liverpool; John Hubbard and his wife, Michelle, of Huntington; Melissa Smith and her husband, Scott, of East Liverpool and Amy Trevor along with her husband, Tom, of East Liverpool. Eight great-grandchildren also survive along with several step-grand and great- grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at the Dawson Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Columbiana County Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
