Denham Springs, Oct. 15, 1934 - Following a brief illness, J. P. Covington, 80, native and lifelong resident of Livingston Parish, died at his home three miles north of Walker. Mr. Covington was born November 5, 1854, and was in the mercantile business for a number of years. He is survived by his wife and 23 children - 14 sons and nine daughters, as follows: Sam W. Covington, of Denham Springs; L. H. Covington, J. R. Covington, Arch Covington, T. C. Covington, Jake Covington, J. P. Covington, Jr., Edward Covington, Sidney Covington, Leo Covington, Eldern Covington, D. E. Covington and Earlo Covington of Walker; Pete Covington of Morgan City; Mrs. Oda Blount, Mrs. Anna Graham, Mrs. Lonnie Graham, Mrs. Carrie Watson, Mrs. Allie Graham, Mrs. Pauline Rinedar, Mrs. Emma Wascom, Mrs. Leruerse Davis and Mrs. Vivian Rinedar, all of Walker, 55 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Services were held and interment made in the Vickers Cemetery
