BOY, 13, DIES OF INJURIES IN SLED ACCIDENT
First Fatal Coasting Accident in Several Years in This Section of County
INJURED LAST SATURDAY
Charles Kenneth Stoops, 13, Dies at Five Forks Home Early This Morning
Injuries received in a sledding accident last Saturday morning proved fatal today to Charles Kenneth Stoops. 13, of Five Forks. Young Stoops died of internal Injuries at 1:30 o'clock this morning at his home.
Last Saturday morning the Stoops lad was crust sledding in Reichard's orchard, near his home. He was descending a hill when his sled either struck a bare spot or a stone, throwing him off into a gutter, landing on his abdomen on a rock. He suffered bruises and internal Injuries. He was confined to his bed from a short time
after the accident until his death. The death of young Stoops is the first fatal accident in this section attributed to sledding for several years, although several have been seriously injured.
He was born in Waynesboro, the son of Harry W. and Daisy (Sheffler) Stoops, and had lived at Five Forks for the last twelve years. He attended school at Greendale, near Five Forks.
The lad was a member of the Church of the Brethren and attended Sunday school at the Brethren in Christ church, Five Forks.
Surviving are his parents, his grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Sheffler, and these brothers and sisters: Barr, Julia, Ralph, Leone, Harry Jr., Margaret, Juniata, Louise, Robert, Patricia, and these half-brothers and sisters, Mrs. Merle Tracey, Smithsburg; Ivan Sheff ler, Waynesboro: Raymond Harty, Rock Forge; Wayne
Stoops, Newvllle, and Miss Ethel Stoops. Hamburg.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon with short services at the home at 2 o'clock and further services at the Church of the Brethren at 2:30 o'clock in charge of Rev. Levi K. Ziegler, assisted by Rev. Mr. Wingert. Interment will be made in Burns Hill Cemetery.
The body may be viewed any time after tomorrow noon at the home.
