GETTYSBURG TIMES - LIGHTNING KILLS WAYNESBORO MAN

Waynesboro, July 23---Ivan Sheffler, 39, superintendent of the knitting department of the Waynesboro Knitting company, was electrocuted Monday night while working with an electric drill in the knitting factory.

Physicians and Waynesboro firemen worked from about 9'Oclock to almost midnight, using artificial means of respiration in a vain attempt to revive him.

According to employees of the knitting company, Sheffler was working with an electric drill on some small wooden cabinets. Suddenly he was thrown backward against one of the factory's machines and other cabinets with the drill clutched in his hands. Barr Stoops (Ivan's half brother), employee of the knitting company, found him unconscious and switched the current off. A short circuit is blamed for the accident.

He is survived by his widow Dorothy and a 14-year-old daughter.

An article ran a couple of days later on Monday July 29th 1935 in the Gettysburg Times as a follow up to an investigation into the accident and read as follows;
