HARRY M. STOOPS JR., 64, of
4219 Clay Hill Road, died at 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the Chambersburg
Hospital. He had been critically ill since being admitted to the hospital after suffering a heart attack Tuesday morning.
Born in Waynesboro, Oct. 3, 1919, he was the son of the late Harry W and Daisy Mae (Sheffler) Stoops.
His early life* was lived at Five Forks. He and his wife were married in July, 1940, and had lived at the present residence for the past 30 years.
He was employed at Landis Tool Co. for 40 years, and prior to his retirement in 1982, was a foreman in the company's grinder department.
He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
He was a Protestant and a member of the Eagles Club Inc.
In addition to his wife, Mrs. Janet E. (Betty) (Schroeder) Stoops, he is survived by a son, Gary W. Stoops, Waynesboro, a granddaughter and these sisters and brothers: Mrs. Julia Cluck, Gettysburg, Ralph Stoops and Mrs. Leone Sprenkle,
both of Waynesboro, Mrs. Margaret Gonder, Mrs. Juanita Run and Mrs. Patricia Wagman, all of Chambersburg, and Mrs. Louise Widmer, Folsom, and a half-brother, Raymond Hardy, Cascade.
Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Grove Funeral Home with Bishop G. Lamar Bonner officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the services Saturday.
