Lewis T. Ackert, since boyhood a resident of New Paltz, died in Vassar Hospital, Poughkeepsie, early on Sunday morning. Last Thursday he reached the age of sixty-six years. For a long time he had been in failing health. He was born in Gardiner, the son of John Ackert and Margaret Masten Ackert. He married Kate Roosa of New Paltz.
Mr. Ackert served overseas with the A.E.F. His social disposition won him many friends. He was an active member and past commander of Sullivan-Shaffer Post. a member of Wallkill Lodge, K. of P., a member of the New Paltz Fire Department and of Brainard Howell Council, Junior Order of Mechanics of Highland.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Lewis and Herman, both of New Paltz, and four daughters, Mrs. Walter Ronk of Pine Bush, Mrs. Ralph King of Newburgh, and Mrs. Harold Griffin and Mrs. Arthur VanLeuven, both of New Paltz; also four sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Nelson, Mrs. Anna Williams of Freehold, N.J., Mrs. Frank Judson and Mrs. Stanley Decker, both of Newton, N.J.. There are also six grand children, and nephews and nieces.
The funeral was held in the M.E. church on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. R. L. Mauterstock officiating.
