Richard served as a Second Lieutenant & Co-Pilot on C-47B #43-16343, 70th Troop Carrier Squadron, 433rd Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in De Soto County, Florida prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 13, 1942 at Camp Blanding, Florida. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Purchasing agent and/or buyer and also as Single, without dependents.

Richard was declared "Missing In Action" during a flight from Tacloban, Philippines to Angaur, Palau during the war. The plane went missing, cause unknown.

Richard was awarded the Purple Heart.

Twenty-One (21) airmen gave their all on this flight.

Richard also has a "Cenotaph" in the Oak Ridge Cemetery, Arcadia, Florida.
