Elvin served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on C-47B #43-16343, 70th Troop Carrier Squadron, 433rd Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

Elvin normally served with the 68th Troop Carrier Squadron but was on this flight serving as the Navigator.

He resided in Harrison County, Indiana prior to the war.

Elvin was declared "Missing In Action" during a flight from Tacloban, Philippines to Angaur, Palau during the war. The plane went missing, cause unknown.

Elvin was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Twenty-One (21) airmen gave their all on this flight.

Elvin also has a "Cenotaph" in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Corydon, Indiana.
