William served as a Staff Sergeant, 33rd Bomber Squadron, 22nd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Smith County, Mississippi prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on November 6, 1942 at Camp Shelby, Mississippi. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a sheet metal worker and also as Single, without dependents.

William was a passenger on C-47B (#43-16343) which was flying from Tacloban, Philippines to Angaur, Palau during the war.

C-47B (#43-16343) was assigned to the 70th Troop Carrier Squadron, 433rd Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force. The plane went missing, cause unknown.

William was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight when it failed to arrive at Angaur. He was awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Purple Heart.

Twenty-One (21) airmen gave their all on this flight.
