Sister Zita Miazga, age 89, a Franciscan Sister of Christian Charity of
Holy Family Convent, Manitowoc, died Sunday, March 24, 2002, at Holy
Family Convent.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at
Holy Family Convent Chapel. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial
will be the Rev. Samuel D. Jadin, O.Praem with burial to follow at Holy
Family Convent Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born Leocadia Miazga, on September 15, 1912 in Chicago, Ill.,
daughter of the late Peter and Katherine Kania Miazga. Sister Zita
earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Notre Dame,
South Bend, Ind. She entered the convent in 1927 and professed her vows
in 1931. Sister Zita served as an elementary teacher at St. Joseph,
Sturgeon Bay, St. Rose, Clintonville, St. Joseph, Rice Lake, St. Mary,
Kaukauna, St. Mary, Bloomington, St. Mary, Greenleaf, St. Anna, New
Holstein, St. John, Antigo, St. William, Waukesha, SS. Peter and Paul,
Kiel, Sacred Hearth (sic), Oshkosh. St. Mary, Brillion. St. Paul,
Manitowoc and SS. Peter and Paul, Wellston, Ohio. She also served as a
pastoral minister at Good Samaritan Medical Center, Zanesville, Ohio,
Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc and St. Mary, Kaukauna.
After retiring from active ministry, she preformed various services at
San Damiano Convent, Slinger and St. Francis Convent, Manitowoc. She has
been a resident of St. Rita Health Center at the Motherhouse since 2001.
Survivors include the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity; a sister,
Ann Manning; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Stanley and Violet
Miazga, Joseph and Gay Miazga, John and Nancy Miazga, Laura Miazga, all
of Rhinelander, Wis.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also
survive.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday March 26, 2002 at Holy
Family Convent, Manitowoc, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is
assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
