MADISON - Elizabeth Clara Guthneck,
ago 86, died in the presence
of her family on Wednesday, August
23, 2000, at Oakwood Village
Rehabilitation Center after a short
illness. Elizabeth (Liz) was born on
July 8, 1914, in Stevens Point, Wisconsin,
to Peter and Katherine
Miazga. The family farmed near
Eagle River, Wisconsin, until the
death of her father. Her mother,
Katherine, then moved to Rhinelander,
Wisconsin, where she
raised her children. Elizabeth married
Isidore Hubert Guthneck of
Harpers Ferry, Iowa, on June 19,
1941, in Rhinelander. She, Isidore
and family lived in Rhinelander
and Duluth, Minnesota, before
moving to Madison in 1956. Together
they raised three children,
Margaret Guthneck of Madison,
Peter Guthneck of Rocky Boy, Montana,
and Michael (Barbara) Guthneck
of Libby, Montana. Two
grandchildren are Nicholas and
Darlene Guthneck of Libby, Montana.
Elizabeth was preceded in
death by her parents, Katherine and
Peter; her husband, Isidore, in
1970; and a sister, Helen (Miazga)
Gilley. Elizabeth was ail active
member of Blessed Sacrament
Church. She had been employed at
the Wisconsin Diagnostic Center for
children in the 1960s and Millin's
Grocery and Bakery on Monroe
Street in the 1970's. She had been
an auxiliary volunteer at St. Mary's
Hospital for many years. She was
also a past, active member of the
Olbrich Gardens Society. Elizabeth
took great pride and pleasure in her
hobby of raising flowers. Her flower
garden was also the pride of the
neighborhood. She was an active
bridge player and enjoyed traveling
and visiting family and friends. Besides
her children and grandchildren,
Elizabeth is survived by two
sisters. Sister Zita Miazga of Manitowoc,
Wisconsin, and Ann Manning
of Rhinelander; four brothers,
Stanley (Violet) Miazga, Joseph
(Gay) Miazga, Henry (Laura) Miazga
and John (Nancy) Miazga, all of
Rhinelander; and many nieces and
nephews. Although Elizabeth was
an avid gardener, she asked that in
lieu of many (lowers memorials be
made in her name to either Blessed
Sacrament Catholic Church in Madison
or St. Mary’s Catholic Church
on the Rocky Boy’s Indian Reservation
in Montana. Funeral services
will be held on Saturday, August
26, 2000, at 10:00 a.m. at BLESSED
SACRAMENT CATHOLIC
CHURCH, 2131 Rowley Ave. Burial
will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.
Friends may greet the family
on Friday, August 25, 2000, at
Blessed Sacrament Church from
5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with a
prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m.
