Stanley Stephen Miazga, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend died peacefully at the age of 94, on June 18, 2010, at his home in Rhinelander.

Stan was born on December 25, 1915 in Stevens Point, WI the son of Peter and Katherine (Kania) Miazga.

He attended St. Mary's Parochial School and then Rhinelander High School, graduating in 1934. He then went to work for Oneida Wholesale Liquor House, where he became manager.

In September of 1942, Stan enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in the Aviation Cadet Program. He served in Italy as a navigator in the 15th Air Force, attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant. He completed 50 missions over Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Poland, France, Czechoslovakia, Italy and Yugoslavia. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the European African Middle Eastern Campaigns Medal with 5 Battle Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, the American Campaign Medal and the Presidential Unit Citation.

After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Stan together with Ray Pecore, founded P&M Beverage Co. in Rhinelander, which bottled and distributed soft drinks. He then went to work at Marplex Products, Co. and served as Secretary Treasurer for many years. In 1955, he returned to Oneida Liquor as a manager and purchased the company in 1962. For many years he operated the company, which became Oneida Sales and Service.

Stan was a lifelong and dedicated member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a member of the Rhinelander Country Club, the Hodag Sports Club and the Rhinelander Lions Club, serving as President and State Convention Chairman in 1976. He also served as the executive director of the Belles of St. Mary's Drum and Bugle Corps for many years. He was an enthusiastic hunter, fisherman, and bowler and was an avid golfer. Stan enjoyed taking care of his yard, especially the rose garden, and he and Vi filled their home with love, hospitality and good cheer. Stan loved and was loved by his family, his friends, and the Rhinelander community. His kind heart will be forever remembered. He will be deeply missed.

Stan is survived by his wife of 60 years Violet "Vi" Miazga, his son James Miazga and daughters Mary King and Joan Gardner; daughter-in-law Jean Miazga, sons-in-law William King and William Gardner; grandchildren Kathryn (Joseph) King Hyder, Andrea (Blaine) King Sigafoose, Emily King, David Gardner and Sarah Gardner; and great grandchildren Evelyn Hyder and Charles Hyder; his brothers Joseph (Gay) Miazga and John (Nancy) Miazga; his sister Ann Manning; his sister-in-law Laura Miazga and Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters Elizabeth (Isadore) Guthneck, Helen (Clarence) Gilley and Sister Mary Zita and his brother Henry Miazga.

Visitation for Stan will be held on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Carlson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Nativity of Our Lord Parish- St. Mary's Catholic Church with his nephew, Father Peter Guthneck and Fathers John Gerritts and James Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred for the Stanley and Violet Miazga scholarship fund to support tuition assistance for children at Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School. The Carlson Funeral Home is serving the Miazga family.
