Mary Jane Taylor was a daughter of William Taylor and Sarah "Sallie" McLendon, and granddaughter of Stephen and Judith Yarborough Taylor, and of Edmond and Elizabeth McLendon. She married Jeremiah W. Beachum on June 30, 1853, and had 14 children, 13 of whom survived her. Her name was generally listed as Mary Jane, though she was called "Cisey" and the tombstone lists her as "Cisey M." I suspect this was pronounced as "Kizzie" as that is how the name is given on one of her daughter's death certificates, and that was the given name of one of her granddaughters. She and her husband and two of their children who died young are buried at a crossroads in rural Anson County, NC (Hwy 218 and Kiker Road) in a family cemetery near where their home once stood.

Jeremiah and Mary Jane's children were: Zachary Taylor Beachum (1854-1926, m. Emma Amanda Steen, 8 children), Angeline Melvina Beachum (1855-1920, m. William Carpenter, 3 children), John Beachum (1857-1940, m. Mary Anne Bowers, 11 children), Sarah Isabelle Beachum (1859-1931, m. Martin William Wright, 13 children), Cleopatra Beachum (1861-1931, m. John Wills Hogan Irby, 9 children), Louisa Clementine Beachum (1864-1939, m. Miles Washington Caudle, 9 children), Joseph Jackson Beachum (1866-1882), Mary Jane Beachum (1867-1910, m. Dulin Benson Stearns, 10 children, great grandmother of the current writer), Hugh Wilson Beachum (1870-1940, m. Regina Belle Simmons, at least 7 children), Atlas Free Beachum (1872-1933, m. Fannie Rebecca Davis, 15 children), Heallon Mercia Beachum (1874-1930, m. James Martin King, at least 4 children), Lenorah Colon Beachum (1875-1955, m. Charles F. Ballard), Arindo Washington Beachum (1877-?, m. Lillie) and Jeremiah Osco Beachum (1881-1882).
