Angeline Melvina "Angle" Beachum was the first daughter and second of fourteen children born to Jeremiah Washington Beachum (1830-1910) and his wife Mary Jane Taylor (1836-1882). Her paternal grandparents were Hugh A. Beachum & his wife Zillah O'Neal; and her maternal grandparents were William Taylor and his wife Sarah McLendon, all of Anson County, North Carolina.

Angel married William Benton "Billy" Carpenter (1852-1881) on 10 April 1878. He was a son of Edmund Lilly Carpenter and his wife Martha Ann Baucom, of Anson County. Angel and Billy had three children: Hiram Debith Carpenter (1879-1948, m. Jennie Partlow, died Concord, NC) , Darling Lillie Carpenter (1880-1934, a son, m. Lottie Christine Baker, buried here), and Minnie Jane Carpenter (1882-1957, m. Plummer Oscar Hawkins, 2nd. m. Forest A. Wentz).

Billy Carpenter was murdered by a black man named Daniel Gould. After his death, Angel kept a boarding house in Charlotte, NC for a while, before returning to Anson County.

Many thanks to my friend Ann Price for the tombstone photo.
