Cletus Rex Brooks, age 64, of Newport, TN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. He was a veteran having served in the U S Army during Vietnam War. He later retired for the National Guard and Lenzen Fibers in Morristown, Tenn. He was the son of the late David Brooks and Gertie Roberts Brooks. He was also preceded in death by his seven brothers, Ruben, Donald, Dolmon, David, Tom, Fred and Lionel; five sisters, Frances, Olive, Juanita, Selma and Sylvia; nieces, Phyllis Hunter and Shirley Speight; and nephew, M. T. Watson. He is survived by his sisters, Jean Dunlap and Nina Brooks of Greenville, SC and Mary Sams of Hendersonville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Jewel Brooks and Agnes Brooks. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday, April 6, 2012 at Manes Funeral Home, Newport, TN. Graveside services will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Hot Springs, NC, with Rev. Dallas Shults officiating.
